Pilates at Home

I can’t believe it’s been three years since I have touted the benefits of Pilates! I figured it was due, again; especially for those of you that are new to me. Plus, since my 2021 blog, Founder and CEO of Lindywell (aka my instructor, Robin Long) has been on LIVE with Kelly and Mark and the Today show. So, others think she is great, too!

Since Covid, I have maintained an online membership to Lindywell a daily, on-demand Pilates (mat) program that I can do in the comfort of my own home (and yes, in my office!) at ANY time that I want. There are over 250 online classes (for all levels) to choose from, but they also offer a daily one if you don’t feel like shuffling through the library. Some of the work-outs are less than 15 minutes and can easily fit into a busy day.

Pilates is a low-impact, full-body exercise that uses slow, precise movements. In Pilates, the “powerhouse" refers to your abdominal core. Pilates mat exercise relies on ones own body weight for resistance, while the Reformer device uses springs and pulleys to provide the resistance. Both depend on isolating muscles, good control, and multiple repetitions that lead to muscle exhaustion with the ultimate goal of strengthening them.

Modifications of the exercises are considered for beginners but it’s best to know your own physical limitations. It’s important to perform each movement with good form, so as to benefit from the exercise, and to not cause any physical injury. I use a thicker mat; a thin, yoga mat will not be comfortable!

If you are interested in checking out Lindywell for yourself (free 14-day trial), here’s a Refer-a-Friend link to try it out for a $20 savings off of your membership. It’s a win-win for us both but there’s no pressure— I just love sharing this great find with others.

To me, the best part is you don’t have to worry about what you’re wearing or what you look like. You move at your own pace and wear what is comfortable for YOU!
