The 28-Day Gout Diet Plan

Welcome to my very own book page!

In the summer of 2018, I was approached by a publishing company and asked to author a book on gout. So, after reading (what seemed like) stacks of research articles, I’m proud to announce the arrival of The 28-Day Gout Diet Plan, which is currently available on Amazon.

Gout has long been recognized as a regal disease because kings during the Victorian age seemed to be afflicted with it the most. Cartoonists have satirically portrayed said overweight rulers sitting on their thrones with an elevated leg and a bandaged, throbbing toe!

Gout is a part of the arthritis family because it affects joints and can cause severe, debilitating pain. The big difference between gout and the other arthritic diseases is that gout doesn’t worsen. Let untreated, it can cause a lot of damage to organs in the body but it doesn’t cause the whittling away at the bone like a degenerative arthritis can.

Traditionally, a low purine diet has been administered to control gout but thankfully science has now shown us that there are better diet therapies to help control gout. Research supports that a gout-friendly diet plays a significant role in reducing painful flares for long-term treatment. The book removes the guesswork out of what to eat when you have gout and provides research-based meal plans with lots of DASH/heart and kidney-friendly recipes. It’s a guide to eating well that helps you take control of gout for long-term relief, while achieving optimal health.

Since the book has come out, I was interviewed by a freelance journalist for an article she was writing for the South China Morning Post so I thought I would share it with you. How cool to be quoted globally!

Testimonial:

Thank You for your “28 Day Gout Diet Plan!” It has been such a great book for my husband, Tim, and I, as he is dealing with high LDL, high Uric Acid, elevated creatinine, a history of calcium oxalate kidney stones, and a GFR number that bears watching. Please bear with me as I share a little bit of our back story with you!

Prednisone and Allopurinol were prescribed by a Rheumatologist who did not want to discuss diet because “it would not make any difference.” He did not mention the connection between kidney function and gout during our visit, and when asked questions told my husband to “let me drive the car.” Tim is 6 weeks into a 3 month moratorium on medications.  We are walking or biking 2 miles, 4 times a week, drinking lots of water, and cutting out junk food.  We are enjoying cooking together, using recipes from your book.  They are DELICIOUS and the book is so helpful in understanding what Tim should eat to balance his many different issues!  It is certainly a new way of eating for us Midwestern beef consumers, but it has not felt like we are missing out. We are just doing more of veggies and fruits and whole grains. We are even doing 3 or 4 meatless days every week!  And I think the best thing has been Tim’s attitude about all this.  He does not feel helpless and old and powerless anymore. He has lost weight, a total of 30 pounds since his cast came off in January, and feels great!  Your book has been a game changer for us, and we are both so appreciative! I did want you to know how helpful your “28 Day Diet Plan” has been for us.
